Gerard Boersma

I create colorful and highly detailed works of art to express my love for the modern human, as well as my concerns about contemporary society.

My hyperreal paintings are based on photographs I took during long walks through my hometown and major cities. Paintings show people on the streets, in stores, public transport, and museums, or zoom in on popular products.

To me, these glimpses of everyday life are important, as they say a whole lot about today's society. They show the way people act, communicate, or are influenced by modern developments in various ways.

I observe it, enlarge it, and paint it. That way I freeze time, and our fast and busy lives are forever captured in a moment — finally ready to be observed quietly.
